Millennium Intermodal, Inc. assists in the transportation of project materials worldwide. From manufacturer to destination EMCI acts as liaison between all the parties involved ensuring that all materials are shipped to reach the field in a timely and secure manner.

The primary goal of our Consultants attending the shipment is the safest, most cost effective, process for achieving a zero defect out-turn at destination. We do not limit our efforts to a single area of concern but will monitor all aspects of a shipment including:

    • Export packing
    • Rail or road transportation
    • Receiving and storage of shipment
    • Loading, stowage and securing of the cargo
    • Transporting carrier
    • Discharge
    • Oncarriage to site
    • Final placement

In order to avoid errors, mishaps and the costly, time consuming delays that result from the reshipment of equipment to the field. Our services in assisting the Customer in the various phases of an Ocean shipment would be to coordinate and relay information between the various entities involved to ensure that all cargo booked is accounted for and arrives at the loading dock in a timely manner. Our aim is to furnish the necessary technical expertise for the care and preservation of the cargo in transit, since ocean transportation is susceptible to innumerable variables including adverse conditions that can be detrimental to cargo improperly stowed on a vessel.

    Pollution & Safety Advisory:

Our consultants advise vessels about mooring arrangements and stay on board the vessel throughout cargo operations. They monitor discharge / loading operations to ensure that no potentially untoward incident arises thus eliminating the potential risk of a dangerous situation developing. They liaison between terminal and vessel's crew ensuring a clear and trouble free operation.

    Loss & Risk Control:

Our Consultants supervise ship & shore cargo surveys, soundings & ullages to determine the exact quantity of cargo loaded or discharged. We monitor the shore figures and ensure that cargo is discharged or loaded without any losses in between.

    Expediting cargo to loading terminal:

Liaison between the Customer's Purchasing Department, the Export Packers and Freight Forwarders, who are each in contact with the various Vendors to ensure that all Purchase Orders arrive at the Terminal in a timely manner, adequately export packed. Our Consultants are on site and are able to convey more accurate and/or current information regarding 'cut-offs' which may affect shipping of late arrivals of high priority Orders.

    Ship Vetting Services:

Shipping being a risky business, charterers who wish to limit their corporate liability, exercise their due diligence in the way they go about chartering the ships they use to carry their hazardous cargoes. They must take all reasonable steps to ensure that the ships are being properly operated and will be in a suitable condition to embark on the voyage in safety, and without the risk of damage to the marine environment. Failure to do so could expose a charterer to unlimited corporate risk in the event of a serious incident involving a ship which that company had chartered.

We download ship inspection reports from the database(s) on the client’s behalf and  get them scrutinised by members of the team with the necessary experience, training and judgement to perform risk assessment in the maritime field. The reports will need to be looked at against a backdrop of historical knowledge on the ship and its operator, information gleaned from Lloyds Casualty Database and other information in the public domain, all of which will influence the advice given to the client as to the suitability of the ship. It is perhaps worth stressing that the decision as to whether a particular ship is acceptable or not, lies firmly with the client. Our services merely provides advice to the client to help him/her make that decision. We also assist in the drafting of a company's vetting policy and its implementation by:

    • Providing a vetting service tailored to meet individual client requirements
    • Assisting in developing a vetting policy to meet the client’s needs
    • Undertaking SIRE inspections on all categories of oil, gas and chemical tankers
    • Undertaking CDI inspections of chemical tankers and liquefied gas carriers
    • Undertaking supervised inspections for candidates seeking accreditation under the CDI regime
    • Providing an auditing function under the OCIMF/SIRE system of accreditation
    • Providing tanker familiarisation courses for jetty operators
    • Providing marine terminal audits
    • Providing a superintendent to oversee in-port cargo operations for insurance purposes
    • Providing a general consultancy within our field of expertise
    • Providing expert opinion in connection with tanker related disputes undergoing litigation

    Pre-Loading Survey:

This phase is conducted at the terminal to assess and determine the condition of the cargo prior to loading and to ascertain and ensure that all packing is adequate for the anticipated ocean carriage. Also, particular attention is given to the storage facilities that may be required by the various types of cargo. Pre-Loading recommendations are also carried out at the Export Packer's premises with reference to particular Purchase Orders that may require additional and individual attention. The priority of this phase is to ascertain any damage so that the damage may be rectified or items replaced immediately. Packages exhibiting suspect characteristics of possible internal damage are returned to the packer for re-evaluation and re-packing. Documentation in this phase ensures that the Terminal receives all cargo in good order and isolates, if required at some later point in time, the possibilities of when and/or where a particular damage may have occurred to facilitate processing of claims.

    Loading Survey:

The Loading Survey involves advance discussions with the Vessel's Master and/or Port Captain, along with the Stevedore Superintendent regarding handling of cargo, stowage and securing. Loading would then basically require continuous monitoring with amendments made as and when required. Space and deadweight availability on the vessel, in relation to the anticipated Bookings and type of cargo to be shipped, are taken into consideration to formulate a proposed stowage plan with particular attention to care of cargo and safety of the vessel. Since cargo bookings are usually prone to increase towards the actual time of loading the vessel, limitation of space and deadweight capacities may require short shipping of cargo, in the event of which, the Customer is immediately advised. This assessment of space or deadweight limitation must be calculated prior to commencement of loading so that lower priority Purchase Orders may be short-shipped without having to undergo expensive discharge or re-handling of cargo that may have already been loading on the vessel. The proposed stowage plan will also include special requirements that may be necessary such as stripping of timber for tubulars; pre-slinging of palletized goods and securing materials that may be required. Monitoring of loading includes verification of proper loading procedures and adequate stowage conditions that will preserve the cargo in good order throughout the voyage. The final phase of the loading consists of securing the cargo to withstand shifting due to 'moving' of the vessel in severe weather conditions during the intended voyage. Our standards of securing assist in the zero defect out-turn!

    • After an inspection & survey, our surveyor feels that the ship does not conform to the international standards.
    • Following a claim which could possibly have occurred due to a lapse in on board maintenance/management.
    • If information is received from a third party e.g. PSC that the ship is below standards.
    • If the ship changes classification societies, usually from an IACS to a non IACS society.
    • If after a lengthy period of lay up ( 6 months or more) a ship is re-activated.

    Post Assignment Review:

Completion of our services is followed by a detailed Report with photographs and includes a final stowage plan. The completed Report is presented to the Customer who can relay necessary information to their counterparts at the discharge port. The primary objective of this review is to discuss problems encountered, if any, and to present recommendations and/or amendments in procedures, where necessary, for future shipments.

    Discharge & Transportation:

Normally, our services in this area will include monitoring and documentation of discharge of cargo from the vessel and coordination, monitoring and documentation of loading and discharge of trucks or railcars between the dock and site.
